New York Low Pressure Boiler COF Practice

For a miniature boiler that has an internal diameter of less than 12 inches and less than 10 square feet of heating surface, the regulations typically specify that two brass washout plugs are required. These washout plugs serve an important function; they allow for the cleaning and maintenance of the boiler's water and mud spaces, helping to prevent sludge buildup and ensuring safe and efficient operation.

The requirement for two plugs reflects the need for adequate access to different areas within the boiler for maintenance purposes. This ensures that operators can effectively manage the internal cleanliness of the boiler, which is crucial for performance and safety.

In contrast, other amounts would not meet the minimum regulatory standard set forth for these specific dimensions of boilers. One plug would not provide sufficient access, and anything beyond two would be excessive for a boiler of this size and heating capability. Therefore, two brass washout plugs are the necessary and correct answer for this question.
